Free the Children Karaoke Dance Fundraiser #2

July 21, 2009

We have the opportunity as a young adult to have a voice, to make a difference and to involve our family, friends and communities.-

FREE THE CHILDREN FUNDRAISER

Music is a universal language that unites all people regardless of race, culture, gender or preferences.  It is something that we as a society can all enjoy.  Like society we may have a difference of opinion, but the general art of music in the form of song and dance is something that WE ALL enjoy.  It therefore was my desire when deciding on a fundraiser to promote the charity of the Miss Teen Canada Worlds’ organization FREE THE CHILDREN that I host an event that would bring my community together to not only support this extremely worthwhile charity, but also have a great time in doing so.

I hosted a KARAOKE/DANCE inviting all family, friends and supporters from the area to attend and show off their singing and dancing talents....well some did and some tried..lol...but a great time was had by all and we raised a considerable donation to FREE THE CHILDREN on my behalf.  I also canvassed local patrons at our community grocery store on several occasions for donations.

While volunteering was already a big part of my life, being involved with this opportunity to be associated with such a worthwhile organization as Free The Children has opened my eyes to the possibilities of what the efforts of a young individual such as myself can make.  I am truly proud and honored to have been a part of and plan to continue to be affiliated with them.  For more information please visit www.freethechildren.com

ONE OF THE REWARDS OF ACCOMPLISHMENT IS TO REMEMBER… HOW YOU GOT TO THIS POINT IN YOUR LIFE

July 18, 2009

Throughout my experiences in pageant participation with alot of hard work and determination, I have found that with the support of my wonderful family, friends and very loyal and generous sponsors, I have been able to accomplish many goals.  Involvement in these events have taught me that while what I may perceive as hard work as a pageant delegate, these extreme experiences would not be possible without the personal sacrifice and insurmountable amount of work that goes into providing this opportunity to the delegate.

I would like to take this opportunity to THANK the following directors of the pageant world that I have had the opportunity to be involved with so far for doing everything that they do, so that we the young women of interest, can pursue our dreams.  It is because of all of you that ambassadors of pageantry are making a difference in Canadian Society.

Miss Teen North Bay Guest Speaker

July 18, 2009

Good evening honorable judges, ladies gentlemen and pageant participants. My name is Danika Landry and I am Miss North Ontario 2009. I am extremely proud to be here this evening to see all these beautiful ladies.  Participation in this rare experience will make you grow tremendously and bring you self confidence. This event will help you learn to take chances and to try new things that you may not have had the self confidence and social skills to attempt otherwise.

The topic I would like to speak to you about this evening is the importance of staying in school and finding meaningful employment in Northern Ontario. Being in school helps you to build character, realize your likes and dislikes and learn how to set personal life goals. Also, you may get the chance to participate in extracurricular activities which may help you to build lifelong friendship and gain confidence. But most importantly, school prepares you work towards your future. I believe it is important to find meaningful employment in Northern Ontario because we need our youth with their fresh ideals and individual talents to help work towards the development and growth of our society. We would also like to stay close to our families and take an active role in the representation of our heritage and cultural beliefs. Everything you have done for yourself during this pageant will prepare you for your future and make you a stronger person. You have gained interviewing skills as well as confidence and have learned the importance of staying positive and being beautiful in and out.

To conclude, I would like to encourage all the girls to please be yourself, stay true to who you are and live today as if there were no tomorrow. I would also like to thank Kensey Butkevich, the North Bay pageant organizer who has done a magnificent job here this evening as well as everyone who came out to support all these beautiful intelligent ladies. Good luck to all the participants. Remember you’re all winners and this is your time to shine. Thank you, merci and enjoy the rest of your evening.

Poem

July 12, 2009

Hi everyone, this poem was sent to me from a very special person in my life, my Aunt. It has been a true inspiration to me in times when I needed motivation. I would like to share it with you and hope that when and if there is a time when you need a friend, you will look back on it and that it will encourage you as it has so many times for me.

Thank you and I love you Matente.

Believe

Believe in the power of believing.

Say " I  BELIEVE, " and BELIEVE it.

Believe in something, anything...

That gives you the courage and strength

To continue on when it would be so easy to give up.

Believe me when I say that you are beautiful.

Believe me when I tell you" you deserve to be happy".

Believe that you have choices and that you can choose wisely.

Above all, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF...
